"Work" in Finnish: työ, töissä and töihin
työ
Say it: TÜ-ö (the y is like German ü). In Finnish, stress is always on the first syllable.
Työ means "work" or "job". The everyday forms are töissä (at work), töihin (to work) and töistä (from work).
At, to and from work
| Form | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| töissä | at work | Olen töissä. I'm at work. |
| töihin | to work | Menen töihin. I'm going to work. |
| töistä | from work | Tulen töistä. I'm coming from work. |
These forms use a stem that looks different from the dictionary word työ. That is normal in Finnish, and they are worth learning as set expressions.
